AND WHEN THEY WERE UP, THEY WERE UP!

The 5000 point barrier has officially been broken as the Football Index continues to stake its claim as THE currency of football. There is a well-known saying that goes a little something like “another day another dollar” which generally tends to suggest everything is same-old and there isn’t much change going on. Not in the Football Index’s case! Wherever you look on the Index at the moment, you will see a swath of players rising in value. Just a quick glance at the time of close yesterday and you would have seen every single player in the top 20 either remaining where they were in value or rising even more!

Yesterday saw the English midfield pairing of Jack Wilshere (£0.88) and Eric Dier (£0.38) getting plenty of love from investors, but it was of course new boys on the block Youri Tielemans (£0.79) and Mauro Icardi (£0.48) who made the biggest jump in price. Both players were quick out of the blocks and after initial surges in price, they both settled at a relatively lower level than the Monaco duo last week; with Tielemans and Icardi’s values raising by 187.91% and 84.65% respectively. It will be interesting to see how long these player’s prices remain at these relatively low fees, as they have both had their fair share of transfer speculation over the past few months. If you haven’t already made them part of your portfolio, they will certainly be ones to place on your Index watch list in order to keep a close eye on proceedings!

As if all this excitement surround promotions and increases in player values wasn’t enough, we of course have a weekend of tantalising football to sink our teeth into! This week’s matchups promise some very mouth-watering ties and it will be very interesting to see which players stake their claim for the buzz win today. Having had an extra week off due to the EFL Cup final fixture, Arsenal will be feeling well rested and their evening kick off away to Liverpool will surely promise plenty of goals! I have a sneaking feeling, we could be looking at a potential buzz winner from this game, do you agree?

With the likes of Leicester looking to continue their winning ways, their relegation matchup against Hull City could prove to be a massive clash at the basement end of the Premier League. Let’s hope Jamie Vardy (£0.85) can continue his goal scoring form from last week and bring a few more smiles to the faces of those that have invested in him. Then we have Man United welcoming Bournemouth to Old Trafford. Poor old Bournemouth haven’t won a game in their last 8 matches, whereas United are looking unstoppable at the moment, with 6 wins in a row. As such, it would certainly be a shock if this one didn’t swing United’s way.

It cannot be denied that we have some very juicy matchups this weekend that are sure to throw up plenty of surprises. In this world of constant uncertainty, it is at least comforting to know that you’re likely to meet a very green looking portfolio come the end of the day and long may it continue!
