The Ballon D’Or Effect

It’s another glittering awards ceremony tonight as the 2017 Ballon D’Or awards ceremony hosted by David Ginola names the worlds best footballer. Alternatively known as the Lionel Messi (£7.85) versus Cristiano Ronaldo (£6.04) award! It therefore comes as little surprise that these two behemoths find themselves slugging it out tonight for the 2017 award!

As things currently stand the diminutive Argentine finds himself on 5 Ballon D’Or Awards whilst Ronaldo has amassed four titles so far. According to the bookies, it is Cristiano who looks set to pick up the Messi equalling fifth title owing to his Champions League heroics this year. This is despite the fact that Messi has outscored the Portuguese star by three goals, 52 for Messi and 49 for Ronaldo.

It has been interesting to see how the Index has reacted to tonight’s event. The red hot favourite, CR7 finds himself up 16p in the last 24 hours as Indexers prepare for the potential media dividends this evening! It’s been good to see how his price has peaked before today’s new 2pm dividends deadline, well above £6 as the stories began to come in!

Indexers also have some data to help them with investment decisions around such awards, the language used in headlines around the best player events, always scores big and the FIFA Best award win for Ronaldo earlier this year saw him pick up two media dividends in a row. This was the same last year with Ronaldo and Messi the year before with previous Ballon D’Or wins. Meaning traders could potentially be looking at 10p media dividends wins!

Will the favourite win it or will Lionel steal the show!
