German club Borussia Dortmund have insisted that on-form striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is not for sale after an explosive start to the season has seen him linked with a whole host of top clubs including Jurgen Klopp’s new team Liverpool and also Spanish heavyweights Barcelona.
After a steady start to life at Dortmund since joining from French team Saint Etienne in 2013, the Gabon international has started this season with a bang and has already scored ten goals in just eight German top-flight games.
Since former manager Jurgen Klopp became boss of Liverpool last week, a number of Dortmund’s best players have been linked with a move to Anfield with Aubameyang included. Despite the speculation linking their pacey striker with a move away from the club, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc told German newspaper Bild that he has no intention of letting the France-born striker leave the club and clearly stated: “We plan clearly with Auba, he is not for sale.”
New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has himself distanced himself away from a raid on his former club, saying: “I have no intention whatsoever to lure Dortmund’s stars to Liverpool. I am not interested in how much money I will be allowed to spend in January. It is only October and I don’t even know how many games there are left until the winter. But we clearly have plenty of games left and we will be taking a look at our own players first.”
In what will be music to the ears of Dortmund fans, after being quizzed this week about his future after such a strong start to the season, Aubameyang was quoted as saying: “I am here with all my heart, I’ve never wanted to leave.”
Still only 26 and excelling in an ever improving Borussia Dortmund team, it will be interesting to see just how long the Germans will be able to resist offers from the biggest teams in Europe. With Aubameyang’s reputation clearly on the rise and currently only valued at £1.07 on Football INDEX, a continuation of his recent scintillating form will no doubt yield higher value over the coming weeks.
