Europa Gains

The Europa League may well be the second tier competition in Europe, but that doesn’t mean the gains available for traders are anywhere near second tier. In fact, the Index saw continued growth yesterday in response to the Europa League ties which took place.

There were plenty of big fixtures on display last night and perhaps one of the juiciest was Napoli taking on Leipzig, with the German team coming away with an impressive 3-1 victory away from home. Although none of the players in this fixture won the buzz, Timo Werner (£2.92) grabbed a brace and in the process, he saw some impressive gains of 23p! The German striker is still very young and he’s likely to be a key player during the World Cup for Germany as well! Napoli will likely struggle to overcome this deficit now, but with the Italians making a real push to knock Juventus from their Serie A perch, perhaps their focus is elsewhere.

In terms of the Match Day Dividends, Lokomotiv Moscow’s Manuel Fernandes (64p) claimed the overall best player and best midfield performance with a whopping points total of 351! The Portuguese playmaker bagged a brace and also claimed the winning goal during the Russian club’s 3-2 victory of Nice. It seems that it was a good day for clubs away from home as Arsenal ran out with a comfortable 3-0 win over Osterland. Nacho Monreal (£1.38) just can’t seem to stop scoring at this moment of time and having grabbed another goal and a clean sheet, he helped himself to the Top Defender Dividends with 198 points. Arsenal’s form in the Premier League hasn’t been up to scratch this season and they will surely see this contest as their best chance of making their way back into the promised land of the Champions League.

One club who will definitely fancy their chances in this competition will be Atletico Madrid. The recent Champions League finalists thrashed FC Copenhagen 4-1 away from home. With Index favourite Antoine Griezmann (£3.95) getting amongst the goals. Atletico’s recent transfer ban had meant that they were unable to play Vitolo (76p) until January, but the Spaniard has already impressed and he also helped himself to a goal during their victory.

Lyon’s Nabil Fekir (£3.76) completed the Match Day Dividend lineup last night, as his goal ensured Lyon won out 3-1 victors over Villarreal. With 190 points, Fekir won added another Top Forward to his tally. It’s been a great year so far for the Frenchman both in terms of his form for Lyon and more importantly on the Footie Index! Fekir has already been linked with a big-money move to the Prem and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that these rumours will rear their head again come the summer. At £3.77, Fekir is clearly a player who has benefitted from his performance buzz form, but should he then begin to profit from the media buzz, he could continue his steady rise!

Away from the Europa League and it looks as though we may have another transfer saga lined up and ready to role. Paul Pogba (£4.58) appears to be unhappy with life in Manchester and the word on the street is that Madrid are ready to pounce. Having won the media dividends yesterday, he’s already top of the media rankings today. Pogba absolutely dominated the media back before his United transfer, so let’s hope this one rumbles on again bringing about plenty of dividends in the process!
