It was a promotion day to remember yesterday and what a start to life in the Index it was for Lyon striker Nabil Fekir!
The Frenchman caused quite a storm as he entered the first team and he finds himself at £2.39 this morning; one of the highest values we’ve seen for a newly promoted player in quite some time! Fekir has long been considered one of Lyon’s best from a batch of young talented youth products and he really seems to be hitting his stride this season.
Many fans will have been aware of Fekir’s promise for some time now and although his development was delayed somewhat by a cruciate ligament injury back in the 2015/16 season, it now seems that Fekir has really stepped up and he’s now considered one of Lyon’s most valuable assets!
Having started life as an attacking winger, Fekir is also capable of slotting in a central attacking midfield role or as a support striker and so far this season, he has been insatiable in front of goal. With 7 goals in 9 Ligue 1 games as well as a goal in the Europa League, Fekir is definitely looking capable when it comes to scoring the goals. But what will make Fekir a really exciting prospect when it comes to the PB, is his overall contribution to the team. Fekir has so far managed 4 assists in the league and his WhoScored rating of 8.31 is up there with the best in the world at the moment!
With Lyon currently sitting just behind Atalanta in their Europa League group, they will still have a strong chance of qualifying and Fekir will surely be a crucial player on Thursday nights when it comes to the PB!
Talking of Atalanta, Alejandro Gomez (£1.69) was the partner in crime for Fekir during promotions yesterday and the Argentine attacking midfielder also had a great first outing in the first team. Gomez is a similar prospect to Fekir in that he is capable of playing as a support striker and he was one of the key reasons for Atalanta’s impressive run to 4th spot last season in Serie A. With 16 goals for Atalanta last season, Gomez also found himself called up to the Argentina squad and he seems to have carried over this fine form to this season. Having notched up 3 goals and 3 assists in the league and already chalking up 2 goals in the Europa League, we have another strong candidate for a player who could quickly become a valuable asset; particularly on a Thursday night!
It will be interesting to see how both new players fair on the Index and both men play this Sunday, with Atalanta away to Udinese and Lyon taking on bottom of the league Metz at home! Considering the way both men have been performing so far this season, it’s easy to see why those traders who’ve already gotten hold of Fekir and Gomez, may well be smiling come this Sunday!
