Heading into La Liga’s seventh match day, the Spanish top flight is yet to settle down. After a summer which included the World Cup, meaning less of a break for plenty of the division’s top talents, coming back into domestic action with all guns blazing has proven tough – especially on a consistent basis. After the midweek action which involved a lot of rotation and surprise results, this weekend should promise plenty more entertainment and goals. Here are some players that you should keep an eye on.
Angel Rodriguez – Forward – Getafe – £0.57
Already boasting three goals to his name, Ángel is one of the top Spanish LaLiga goalscorers in the calendar year of 2018. Since kicking into gear halfway through last season, the 31-year-old’s fine vein of form has extended into the new season with ease. Linking up well with both Jorge Molina and Jaime Mata so far at the head of the Getafe attack, there is plenty more to come from his experienced, clinical operator. Getafe’s summer signings are settling in well, and Jose Bordalas’ unit is, as ever, tough to beat.
Portu – Forward – Girona – £0.75
When Barcelona scraped their way to a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou recently, Portu was one of Girona’s chief mischief makers. His first LaLiga campaign in 2017/18 ended with him notching 11 goals in the country’s top flight, and his endless energy and searing pace are a real nuisance for even the most reputable of teams to deal with. Eusebio’s side are in good form and should continue to cause a lot of problems for opponents on the counter. With a well-balanced midfield behind him, Portu has the freedom to wreak havoc.
Franco Vazquez – Midfielder – Sevilla – £0.90
Whether he has been featuring in behind a lone striker or as a central midfielder alongside Ever Banega, Franco Vazquez has been looking sharp for Sevilla. During his side’s 3-0 beating of Real Madrid midweek, the newly chosen Argentina international had plenty of tricks and nice touches to add into the mix. Across all competitions, El Mudo has three goals and two assists to his name, and Sevilla can’t stop scoring at present. Should Sevilla progress in Europe and improve in LaLiga he in one to keep an eye on.
Wissam Ben Yedder – Forward – Sevilla – £1.62
Last season, Wissam Ben Yedder didn’t get the chances he deserved. Unable to impress too often under three different coaches, the Frenchman found himself in the right place at the wrong time. In recent weeks, Pablo Machin has given Ben Yedder the chance to lead the line alongside Andre Silva. The pair have started to find form since. A recent hat trick against Levante caught the eye, but Machin’s Sevilla should keep creating more regular chances as they get used to their new system and style.
Pablo Fornals – Midfielder – Villarreal – £1.61
An outrageous volley against Athletic Club and some lovely bits of skill to embarrass the likes of Benat and Inigo Martinez were a timely reminder of just what 22-year-old Pablo Fornals is capable of. The Spaniard chipped in with a joint-highest 12 assists in LaLiga last season, alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suárezm and possesses the vision, technical ability and weight of pass required to make it to the very top. Javi Calleja’s Villarreal have had a slow start to the season, but Fornals will be key in the good moments and the bad.
