One of the beauties of the the international break is that it gives players, fans and teams alike an opportunity to reflect on the season so far and in the Football Index world that means analysing strategies and looking forward for new growth prospects.
One of the main stories coming out of Spain at the moment is the form or rather lack of it, from three well known strikers each representing the biggest clubs in La Liga who have not been hitting the headlines for the right reasons. Could these strikers be a new growth opportunity when the domestic campaigns get back up and running?
First up is, according to Fifa, the best player in the world in 2017, Cristiano Ronaldo (£5.43) who since returning from his suspension in La Liga has hit the back of the net once in 7 appearances. Contrast this to arch nemesis Lionel Messi (£9.08) who has plundered 12 times to date in 11 starts! He has been more prolific in the Champions League with 6 goals in 4 games so it would look a matter of time before he starts hitting top gear in La Liga once more but it hasn’t stopped the media speculating! With a gap of £3.50+ to Messi will a run of good form close this?
Comparing strikers with Messi is always difficult but for Luis Suarez (£2.03) A’s a teammate it is inevitable and the Uruguayan simply hasn’t got going this season. He has only scored 3 times in 8 games in La Liga, that’s 9 times less than his esteemed colleague! Will the international break give him a chance to recuperate and come back stronger? At just over £2 there would appear plenty of growth to catch contemporaries such as Robert Lewandowski at £2.61 on the Index.
Finally the Index train himself, Antoine Griezmann (£3.79) hasn’t yet got going either in La Liga and the glamorous surrounds of his new home ground the Wanda Metropolitana, with just 2 goals so far in La Liga. Is he rueful about not moving to Manchester United in the summer? Or will he get back on the goal train again shortly? Either way there will always be speculation aplenty about Griezmann and reports yesterday linked him with a move to Barcelona. This and United links will surely intensify with a return to form, which will of course bump up his price!
Some of La Liga’s biggest names haven’t got going yet but when they do will they rise nicely for Indexers?
