It was a very busy day not just in England, but across the European football landscape and most importantly of all, it was a treble dividend day on the Football Index!
Of course, there really is only one place to start when addressing the European football on display: the news of Neymar being stretchered off after a nasty challenge on his ankle against Marseille! While Paris Saint Germain ran out 3-0 winners, the news of Neymar’s injury was the big talking point. As soon as he was injured, this had an immediate effect on the market and his price took a bit of a dip from £10.95 down as ‘low’ as £10.28…I say low, but when you think he would still be nearly £1.00 higher than the second placed Harry Kane (£9.39) and it kind of puts the panic into perspective. Although it did look a bit of a nasty challenge, Neymar’s price soon went back up and he currently finds himself consolidated at £10.64.
Now we’ve been here before on the Football Index and injuries to big-name players often have a bit of a negative effect on a player’s price, but it is important to keep in mind just how valuable Neymar is as a long-term hold. Of course, if the news comes out that he will be out for a considerable period of time, then we may well see another slight dip, but for those of you with a bit of cash to splash, this could well be a great opportunity to snap up more Neymar futures at a discounted price! After all, the chances are pretty high that Neymar’s value will bounce back up (if not even surpassing £11.00) within a month or two; as such there really is no need to be nervous about the Neymar situation!
Neymar has been linked with a move to Madrid this summer, but one player who will be making their way to Los Merengues this summer is Vinicius Junior (£1.91). It seems as though the buzz surrounding the young Brazilian wonderkid is starting to snow ball and after continuing to impress with Flamengo his price has seen a 23.89% increase. How long will the Brazilian remain at this lowly figure? Will he eventually hit the same figures as his Brazilian compatriot Neymar? Only time will tell, but if he is able to fulfill his massive potential, just imagine those gains to be had!
There was plenty more action across Europe to talk about and Antoine Griezmann (£4.53) stole the show in what was surely the best match of the day, as Atletico beat Sevilla 5-2 away from home. The French striker netted a hat trick to earn the striker dividend with 265 points. Atletico find themselves comfortably in second place at the moment and although they are 7 points adrift of Barcelona, they remain one of the most impressive sides in European football and they will surely fancy themselves in the Europa League!
Over in Italy, Fiorentina’s Cristiano Biraghi (63p) cropped up with the winner in Fiorentina’s 1-0 victory over Chievo. Biraghi has been a somewhat unknown quantity for some time now, but he is steadily establishing himself whilst on loan at Fiorentina from Pescara. However, one man who has been absolutely smashing it recently is Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (£3.16). The Serbian midfielder netted a brace during Lazio’s 3-0 victory over Sassuolo, with the prolific Ciro Immobile (£1.90) grabbing the other. Milinkovic-Savic’s trajectory on the Index is a thing of beauty at the moment and he’s been subject to massive gains this week. A 41p increase yesterday capped what has been a brilliant week in which the Serbian saw his value rise by over £1.40! Milinkovic-Savic has already been linked with a big-money move to the Premier League and if he can carry on with performances like this, it’s easy to see why he’s currently flavour of the month on the Football Index!
