The scenes last night at Vicarage Road were ones of jubilation for the Hornets as Watford trounced Chelsea 4-1, thanks to a collapse from Antonio Conte’s men in the final 10 minutes to heap the pressure on the current Premier League Champions and their manager.
It had already been a tough night for the team from Stamford Bridge, who had seen Tiemoue Bakayoko (£0.75) sent off in the first half, meaning they played the majority of the match with ten men. Even then though Belgian superstar Eden Hazard (£5.16) was able to score a fine goal to bring the scores level at one apiece, with around ten minutes left to play. But Chelsea simply collapsed after their equaliser as Watford hit the back of the net three more times to comfortably run out 4-1 winners. Where does this leave the manager, Antonio Conte?
As I write, Conte is still in a job, but after publicly complaining about the clubs transfer dealings and the current run of form, how long will it continue. Especially when it looks like the Italian himself wants to leave! But what does this mean for Indexers?
One of the major stories surrounding Chelsea and their current plight is the future of Eden Hazard (£5.16). It is no secret that Real Madrid are keen admirers of the winger with Hazard himself said to be keen on the switch. With Chelsea facing Barcelona in the Champions League and qualification for next years tournament in the balance, rumours are surely going to intensify about Hazards future. Is the new Phillipe Coutinho (£3.45) story for the summer transfer window?
Another area of interest for Indexers is Chelsea’s striking options. Record signing Alvaro Morata (£2.63) looks devoid of confidence and whilst being injured has seen his price drop by £1.13 in just over three months. Will he return to form and boost his price to lift Chelsea out of the doldrums? One person who can’t help anymore is the now on loan striker Michy Batshuayi (£1.55) who was tweeting his sorrow at last nights result along on Twitter. Despite Morata and Batshuayi being absent new signing Olivier Giroud (£1.65) was only on the bench for Chelsea last night. What will happen with all of these strikers?
