Fans won’t forget the sheer excitement and hope that last summers epic run to the World Cup semifinals of Gareth Southgate’s England squad. It was totally unexpected, it shattered past hoodoos (Eric Dier anyone) and unfathomably united the country in the divisive Brexit era. This weekend sees the journey to the next hopeful summer tournament and Gareth Southgate will seemingly be looking towards three new lions.
News was breaking yesterday that, Borussia Dortmund’s talented right winger Jadon Sancho (£14.94) was in line for a start in this Fridays European qualifier against the Czech Republic. The eighteen year old has had an incredible season with 8 goals and 12 assists in the Bundesliga as well as several Champions League appearances, this is emphasised by the fact that his price has risen from a low of £1.32 a share in one year! That’s a rise of £13.49 a share, which is amazing. His fine form certainly hasn’t caught traders on Football Index by surprise and yesterday’s news helped the former Manchester City youngster take home the £0.05 second place Media Dividend yesterday. All eyes will be on Sancho now to see if he will be starting on Friday evening.

The shock call up for this series of European qualifiers came on Tuesday afternoon just before the announcement of the share split. A first ever senior call up to Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi (£10.23). The wide man has shined in this seasons Europa League but has found his appearances in the Premier League limited by Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri. This led to serious interest from German heavyweights Bayern Munich in January and will they back in the summer transfer window? Indexers clearly see an exciting future for Hudson-Odoi also with his share price up from £0.90 a year ago! Will he feature in the qualifiers at all or is Southgate looking to introduce him into the Three Lions squad quietly.
The final of these three lions looking to make an impact is the somewhat controversial potential debut of West Ham United’s, Declan Rice (£5.46). Rice was finally called up to Southgate’s latest squad after a saga on whether he would represent England or the Republic of Ireland came to a head earlier this year. The defensive midfielder may well be thrust straight into proceedings on Friday and could well make the role his own.
All eyes will be on the team announcement to see if the three new young lions will be taking their place.
