If there’s one thing that’s sure to get Index Trader pulses racing, it’s a tournament in which many of the world’s best youth talent will be on display. With the European U21 Championship kicking off yesterday, traders have been quick to react to some of the player performances on Sunday.
Host nation Italy are amongst the favourites to win the competition and they got off to an impressive start following their 3-1 victory over Spain. Real Madrid’s forgotten man Dani Ceballos (£1.11) gave Spain an early lead, but Italy’s quality shone through and Federico Chiesa (£1.76) in particular looked a class above his peers. The midfielder showed why Juventus are desperate to land his services this summer, with bids in the region of €70millionm being mooted. Chiesa’s brace tipped the balance in Italy’s favour, before Lorenzo Pellegrini (£0.85) finished off the tie with a late penalty. Chiesa was one of the shining lights for Fiorentina last season in what was a disappointing campaign, with La Viola succumbing to a 16th place finish. If his opening performance in the Euro Championship is anything to go by, Fiorentina will surely have plenty more suitors lining up before too long.
Lorenzo Pellegrini is just one of the names to have been linked with a move to Arsenal over recent weeks and with rumours of a €30million release clause, he certainly falls into their price range. Nonetheless, since this story dropped a week ago, there hasn’t been too much more smoke coming from this direction. Fans of Moise Kean (£2.32) will have been disappointed that the prodigal striker was unable to get a goal yesterday. Kean had an outstanding end to the season with Juventus and he managed 7 goals across the season as well as 2 international goals for the senior team. However, it seems that Index traders are keeping the faith that Kean will come good and he has risen 7p in the past week alone.
The other fixture taking place yesterday saw an interesting matchup in which Poland overcame Belgium with a 3-2 victory. Polish midfielder Szymon Zurkowski (£0.54) made a significant impact with a goal and an assist and in turn, he was subject to a price increase of 10p yesterday. Zurkowski moved from Polish club Gornik Zabrze to Fiorentina this January in a deal worth around €3million. Having spent the remainder of the season on loan in Poland, Fiorentina will be hoping that Zurkowski continues to impress and is capable of making the step up in Serie A. Zurkowski can take confidence in the fact that Serie A is quickly becoming a hotbed of Polish talent with the likes of Piotr Zielinski (£0.73) and Krzysztof Piatek (£1.38) establishing themselves as key figures in their respective teams.
Although Belgium lost their opening fixture, one talent that Index traders will want to keep a close eye on throughout the tournament is Dodi Lukebakio (£0.96). The Belgian winger did manage to get an assist and he is up 16p over the past 7 days alone. Lukebakio will be hoping to add to his burgeoning reputation, having amassed a very impressive 14 goals and 5 assists during his campaign on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf. With Lukebakio looking to establish himself in Watford’s first team this coming season, he will be a very exciting prospect in the Premier League.
With so many international tournaments taking place this summer, it seems that the football is never ending at this moment of time. As such, Football Index traders have never had a better time to take advantage of the wide range of football on display!
