While you may have heard about some wedding happening in London today in a place called Windsor there is a far more significant event happening in London at a stadium called Wembley, the FA Cup Final. It looks set to be a cracker as Antonio Conte and his Chelsea team take on Jose Mourinho and his Manchester United side.
One thing for sure is that both teams will be looking to end the season with some silverware. For Chelsea, it has been a difficult season having been the Premier League Champions last time out and this season finishing fifth meaning they won’t be hearing that Champions League theme tune at Stamford Bridge next season. While for the Red Devil’s the campaign has been much improved on last season, but they like everyone else were a distance away from Manchester City despite finishing second in the league.
With two such high calibre teams in action who should Indexers be looking out for? The FA Cup is of course not eligible for Match Day Dividends, but the match winner will be set to dominate the media dividends race.
One of the main talking points is whether or not Manchester United’s former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku (£4.21) will be fit enough to start tomorrow having missed the end of the league season through injury. This is undoubtedly set to be a last minute decision for the Red Devils and Indexers should be on the lookout for those all important team sheets an hour before kick off. Last season Chelsea were also in the FA Cup Final and looking to secure a cup double, but they were gunned down by Arsenal who fielded a certain Alexis Sanchez (£4.23). The now United hitman was one of the heroes of the semifinal and will be looking to make it three FA Cup victories in a row.
For Antonio Conte, a lot of the intrigue will also centre around who will start up front. It is widely expected that Olivier Giroud (£1.59) and Eden Hazard (£6.02) will lead the line together but don’t rule out Alvaro Morata (£2.36) making the starting eleven having returned from injury recently. The Spaniard has had a difficult season at Stamford Bridge and has been linked with moves to Juventus and Borussia Dortmund recently but can he be the hero for Chelsea?
Elsewhere in the middle of the park it looks set to be a battle between two Frenchman on who will run the show. Manchester United’s record signing Paul Pogba (£6.69) will be looking to dictate the okay but trying to stop him will, of course, be last season Premier League player of the season N’Golo Kante (£1.18). Whichever Frenchman comes out on top looks set to go a long way in deciding the destination of the FA Cup.
Who will be dominating the back pages of the World Media on Sunday morning? It certainly will not be the front pages thanks to those Royals.
