Last season Traders returned large profits thanks to individual performances on the pitch. So make sure your portfolio is ready once again.

Here are the three highest accumulative Match Day Scoring La Liga Defenders from last season and a wildcard to get Traders thinking:

1st – Gerard Pique (£0.50) – 4,454

The rock at the back for Barcelona. Gerard Pique has become a club legend at the Nou Camp with eleven years of service and counting. The 32-year-old is an all-rounded defender who is just as comfortable making a game-winning tackle as he is passing the ball around the backline.

Last season, Pique had yet another strong campaign. He led the line that strolled to another La Liga trophy and only conceded 36 goals from 38 matches. Personally, the Spaniard illustrated his defensive dominance with over 75% of his aerial duels won and over six interceptions per match. He also ended the season with a pass success rate of 93.5% and also kept his discipline with just six yellow cards.

This time around, Pique will continue to be one of Barcelona’s fearless leaders as the old gate continue to prove their worth. With youthful additions to Barca’s squad, Gerard will see this as one of his final chances to achieve greatness.

2nd – Jordi Alba (£0.84) – 3,788

Spain’s answer to roadrunner. Jordi Alba is one of the Worlds most feared full-backs due to his ability to read the game, defensive positioning and frightening pace going forward. Meep meep.

Last time out, Alba made a mark with his assisting in possibly the worlds best passing football team. The Spain International tallied up eight assists along with two goals to prove his attacking worth to the La Liga Champions. He made over 3.5 passes into the opposition penalty box each match and had an average of 2.32 touches in the box. It’s safe to say, he enjoys to attack.

This season, as aforementioned, Barcelona will want to retain their domestic titles whilst pushing for European glory. The 30-year-old has very little competition for the left-back position so expect him to get plenty of minutes again.

3rd – Sergio Ramos (£1.03) – 3,394

One of Spain’s greatest ever Defenders. Sergio Ramos loves a tackle, goal and headline. Whilst he isn’t getting any younger, he is showing no signs of slowing down. Love him or hate him, you can’t deny he is effective.

Last season was not Ramos’ finest however he still scored highly in Match Day Dividends. The Spaniard is renowned for scoring goals despite playing centre-back and scored six in the previous campaign. He aerial ability is second to none so if he is your portfolio and he is coming up for a Real Madrid corner, get excited.

This season, Real Madrid are looking to reboot after a poor showing by their standards domestically last year. Ramos will remain key to Madrid’s battle with their arch rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid at 33 years of age.

WILDCARD – Jose Giminez (£0.57)

Jose Giminez has cemented his place as one of La Liga’s best defenders. At 24 years old, he has become an integral part to Atletico Madrid’s defensive line and features from kick-off to the final whistle. He is an old fashioned defender as last season he made over 6.6 interceptions per match and 4.2 clearances.

This season, Atletico Madrid will be hoping to mount an attack on their city rivals Real Madrid and La Liga Champions Barcelona. With their mission statement clear and Giminez an important part of their plans for years to come, at £0.57 he could be worth adding to your portfolio.
