It’s a well-used football cliché but tonight’s fixture at the Liberty Stadium between Swansea City and Southampton is exactly that, a real six pointer. The ramifications of securing victory for either side will almost certainly ensure survival in the top tier of English football for another season whilst defeat will see the losing side staring at relegation and a spell in the Championship. Before kick-off both sides are currently sat on 33 points each with Southampton sitting outside of the relegation zone in 17th on goal difference alone from Swansea in 18th. How will it impact the world of Football INDEX?
Tonight’s fixture is the only match tonight taking place that is eligible for Match Day Dividends meaning that for traders on a single match day there are £0.04 pay-outs on offer for each position and of course a further £0.02 dividend for the star player. Leading the charge for the home team will be the Ayew brothers for the Swans, with Andre (£0.62) and Jordan (£0.67) both leading the charge for Carlos Carvahal in recent weeks. The two Ghanaians will be looking to strike a huge below to Southampton by getting on the scoresheet this evening. Whilst leading the attack for the Saints will likely be the recently returned from injury Charlie Austin (£1.11) who has managed seven strikes in just eight starts this season, could he secure Premier League football at St Marys, with a further strike this evening? One of the stars of the last couple of weeks for the Saints has been Dusan Tadic (£1.03), who is up £0.21 per share in the last month, whose two goals against Bournemouth in a 2-1 victory appear to have given Mark Hughes’ men a boost in their survival hopes. It is sure to be a cagey match and a winning goal will surely be a candidate for the star player award.
Yet with the prospect of relegation, traders have spotted an opportunity to profit from potential transfers away from relegation threatened teams in recent weeks, with the potential of some of the teams stars seeking a move away. If we look at Stoke City whose relegation to the Championship was confirmed on Saturday we can see that Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri (£1.49) is up over £0.71 over the last three months as traders speculate what will happen to the former Bayern Munich side now that the Potters have tumbled out of the Premier League.
Another example was seen this weekend with defender Ryan Shawcross (£0.69) up 35% from £0.51 as traders felt he was one of the Potters players who could now seek a move away. We have also seen similar moves with some of the players in action this evening, take left back Ryan Bertrand (£1.27) who is trading £0.32 up in just one month. Whatever the outcome of tonight’s match look out for the opportunity to profit from players looking to get away from relegated sides.
Saints or Swans to survive? One thing for sure is tonight is a six pointer.
