Serie A Preview: Match Day 3

It was Inter who made the headlines on Wednesday morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello
Sport in Italy, as the famous pink newspaper pointed to the “tre stelle” (three stars) at the club.

One of that trio was Romelu Lukaku, who has already scored in each of his first two matches in
Serie A, while chairman Steven Zhang was also picked out as he was named the first Chinese
member of the European Club Association this week. Finally, Coach Antonio Conte was
highlighted, as it certainly seems that he could finally be the man to restore Inter to genuine title
contenders this season.

Serie A Match of the Weekend: Fiorentina vs Juventus

The rivalry between these two teams may be a little one-sided, but Fiorentina’s determination to
record their first win of the season at home to their most hated adversary adds some real spice
to an already hotly contested fixture in Italy.

Viola boss Vincenzo Montella can only blame his unfortunate luck with the schedule and a
squad full of new players for so long as he looks to record his first victory in his second stint in
charge of this team. They will hope that their attacking approach can breach a Juventus
backline that looked decidedly shaky during their 4-3 win over Napoli.

Despite this, the reigning champions look the favourites to take all three points, but expect a
fairly open and keenly fought game in Florence.

Rest of the weekend:

Napoli will look to exploit Sampdoria’s clear weaknesses during Saturday’s teatime kick-off, the
latter side having recorded back-to-back defeats in the opening two rounds as well as
conceding seven goals and only mustering one in reply.

Inter look to continue their 100% winning record as they host erratic Udinese at San Siro, with
Alexis Sanchez set to make his debut for the Nerazzurri alongside former Manchester United
teammate Romelu Lukaku. That fixture completes a fascinating Saturday of action in Italy, one
not to be missed!

Serie A Player to Watch: Cristiano Ronaldo vs Fiorentina (£3.02)

After Cristiano Ronaldo scored no less than four goals in Portugal’s 5-1 win over Lithuania, taking his international total to a stunning 93 strikes in 153 appearances for the Seleção Portuguesa. On firing in the third during the 65th minute of the match, the superstar sealed his eighth hat-trick for his national team, the 54th time he had fired in three goals in a match in total. Continuing his trend of notching up incredible numbers, Ronaldo also became the first player to score against 40 different countries, and he will certainly be in the mood to continue that scoring run this weekend.

CR7 opened his account for the 2019/20 campaign versus Napoli in Week Two, having had a goal ruled out for offside by the narrowest of margins the week before. The forward is currently taking an average of five shots per game, a figure that is bound to increase once Maurizio Sarri has his team firing on all cylinders. His appetite for goals has been well and truly whetted in the international break, and Fiorentina had better be on their guard if they hope to stand any chance of stopping him.
