It’s been quite a couple of months for the boy wonder known as The Portuguese Mbappe. Which talented teenager are we talking about this time? It can be none other than Lille hotshot Rafael Leao (£4.99).
It’s been a real breakout season for Leao and the last couple of months, in particular, have really showcased his potential. With 6 goals in his last 7 games, Leao has definitely caught the attention of Index traders and this remarkable form for one so young has led to a significant rise in value. In fact, he has seen a surge of nearly £3.00 in the previous month and an astonishing increase of over £2.00 in the past week alone!
For one so young, Rafael Leao has already seen his fair share of drama. Lille managed to swoop in to snap up Leao amid a dispute with Sporting, which saw several high profile names leave the club last summer. With this fallout behind him, Leao has gradually eased his way into a high-flying Lille side and the fact that he has been able to grab the headlines in a team which boasts the likes of Nicolas Pepe (£6.55), is testament to his quality.
The French League already has its fair share of young talent and it’s high praise indeed that Rafael Leao has been dubbed the ‘Portuguese Mbappe’. Whilst Mbappe (£16.55) has already fully established himself as one of the best players of his generation, the Portuguese striker still has some way to go before eclipsing Mbappe. However, it is easy to see why these early comparisons are being made. Much like Mbappe, Leao is already standing out for his sheer athleticism and he has already shown a knack for being able to catch defenders out with his rapid acceleration. Although he still had plenty to develop in terms of his decision making, Leao has also recently shown a very cool head in front of goal and it is clear to see that he is growing in confidence with every game!
Having managed to pick up Rafael Leao on a free transfer, the management over at Lille will have every reason to be patting themselves on the back; so too will traders who managed to pick this gem of a player up early doors! Lille will no doubt want to keep Rafael Leao for as long as they can and he will surely benefit from another season in which he can really cement his place in the first team. Nonetheless, with the likes of Man City reportedly ready to cough up €25million for Leao before he’d even joined Lille, it’s surely only a matter of time until the vultures start circling around the man whose rightly referred to as the Portuguese Mbappe.
