We are still several months away from the eyes of the World descending on Russia to watch 32 countries slug it out for the World Cup, but the Index was caught up in some early World Cup fever yesterday!
The interest surrounded Gareth Southgate who announced his England squad for the upcoming friendlies with Holland and Italy, giving fans and Indexers alike, a glance at the potential players taking part in summer. These squad announcements are becoming a great opportunity to profit from the Index and yesterday was no different!
There were several headlines yesterday but the inclusion of two Burnley players certainly captured the imagination as defender James Tarkowski and Goalkeeper Nick Pope were both called up by Southgate. Before the news broke you could have picked up Tarkowski for 97p a future and he flew up to £1.18 in minutes as Indexers jumped on board! Whilst for Nick Pope who has enjoyed a fine season for the Clarets, he was available for 64p early yesterday morning and jumped up to highs of 72p. These rises proving that squad announcements for the World Cup could be very lucrative indeed!
The other big story emanating from the squad announcement was the return to international duty for Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere. Having missed out on the last squad, Southgate stated that Wilshere needs to be playing more regularly. The Gunner has certainly done that and remained injury free meaning a call up always looked likely and Indexers certainly profited from the announcement. As he is currently trading at £2.05 which is 20p up from earlier in the week. Will he start the friendlies?
It certainly looks a new way to profit from the Index! Can’t wait for World Cup squad announcements!
